Back It Up, Your Data That Is

Has your hard drive ever crashed on your computer before?  Do you remember that pit in your stomach when you realized that all of your digital photos, tax returns and your kids school work was on that hard drive?  So maybe you learned your lesson and purchased an external drive and now backup your data there. But you know you still have that lingering feeling in the back of your mind, what if something happens to my external drive. It is just sitting there, on your desk, right next to your computer just as vulnerable to crashing or worse being damaged on accident or even destroyed in a house fire.

Best practice is to also have an off site backup option. This option could be where you burn your data to DVD’s and then take them to your sisters house for safe keeping, but really how safe is that and how much of your time does that take up?

The better solution is to utilize an online back up solution such as Mozy. I utilize an external hard drive and Mozy to back up my data. Mozy offers a few different options for backing up your data, they even have a free option where you can back up a maximum of 2GB of data for FREE. If you want to back up an unlimited amount of data you can do for for only $5.95 a month. Do you want to back up more than one computer? That is not a problem either, just add another $5.95 and that computer can be backed up as well. You can set your backup to run anytime during the day and either daily or weekly.

So, take a moment and give Mozy a try for free by signing up for the 2GB of data option first and then if you want to back up more data just upgrade at anytime.  Don’t waste another moment worring about your data, back it up!
