Facebook Fan Pages

yellow-flagThe good folks over at Facebook have decided to change up the fan pages.  The Fan Pages look more like profile pages with a wall that will display a comment stream as well as the fan page activity stream.  Here is the link to a PDF document that Facebook has made available about the updates.

Ok, so ”Whoop de doo” you say and  ”What is a Fan Page?” you might be asking and “Why do I need one?’.  Well a fan page is a special type of page that anyone can set up in addition to their profile page.  The main purpose of a profile page is where you connect with your friends and family members.  A fan page is where you can promote your business, a band, a celebrity, well just about anything or anyone can have a fan page.  A fan page also lets you basically have an additional profile where you can connect with people about your business.  Also, there is a 5,000 connection limit on friends an a fan page does not have a cap on the amount of connections made.  I am sure that you have joined at least one fan page while you have been living in Facebookland.  I don’t know about you but I enjoy receiving the updates about comedian Greg Behrendt or from TV Show 30 Rock.

Here’s how to get started with creating a fan page for your business or your dear dog muffy.

  • Go To the bottom of any Facebook page and locate the link Advertising, it is on the bottom right
  • Select the Pages link on the top of the page
  • Select the green ‘Create A Page’ button on the right.
  • Select which type of category for your page and type in the Name of Your business
  • That’s it!  Seriously.  Now you just need to upload a photo for your page and tell your fan club about your new exciting page.
